Sam T. Martin, 84, of Great Falls, Va., died on Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at Capital Hospices Inpatient Center. Husband of Sue Mahorner Martin, father of Katherine Palmer, Frances Martin and Susan Young and grandfather of Elizabeth Marie Palmer and David Thornton Palmer. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Johns Episcopal Church or Capital Hospice, 2900 Telestar Court, Falls Church, Va 22042.

Susan, My deepest sympathies to you and your family. Sam will always be in our hearts and memories. The lunch bunch will never be the same. Jim
I will truly miss a fine and gentle person, who was a Southern Gentleman and a marvelous friend. His accomplishments are so numerous that I hesitate to list them – a Navy hero, First ‘Top Gun’ in the Pacific Fleet, and joy to be with.
We of the Class of 1951 will miss Sam’s humor and presence.
Our heartfelt condolences to the family. We will miss Sam terribly. We considered him to be the “wise old man” as he helped a group of very young and untested Mids mature to be officers and gentlemen.
We always enjoyed talking to Sam. We will miss him
