Scarlett Curtis Winfree

scarlett winfree
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Scarlett Curtis Winfree, age 72, of Mechanicsville, Virginia on the morning of Sunday, January 23, 2022. She passed away at home, suddenly but peacefully, in the arms of her son following a courageous battle with cancer. She is preceded in death by her beloved mother and father, Edith and Walter Curtis, and her brother, Michael James Curtis. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Amanda, her son Michael and his wife Kathryn, and her granddaughter, Sydney Daye. She is survived by her former husband of 46 years, Michael Winfree; her nephews Michael Curtis (Gloria, Maxwell, and Bennett) and Joshua Curtis; her niece Ashley Jackson (Ryan); her loving brothers in law, Mark Winfree (Sandra) and Steve Winfree (Joy); her father-in-law, Mickey Winfree; and many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins. Scarlett was a voracious reader; she loved gardening, sewing, quilling, decorating, and summer days eating blue crabs with family. She created and cultivated beauty in every possible moment and place. She was a bright light in the lives of so many and a rock for her children. Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at Money & King Funeral Home, 171 Maple Ave West, Vienna, VA, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. and a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Falls Church. Scarlett loved flowers, but in lieu thereof, we know she would appreciate any donations in her memory to the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance at ocrahope.org.

  1. Scarlett was such a bright light and kind spirit. I know I will miss her sense of humor and sharing wonderful memories over a table full of Blue Crabs. We had some great Crab Feasts over the years.
