Born in: Huntsville, Alabama
Resided in: Vienna, Virginia

Stephen Emory Jones of Vienna, Virginia passed away peacefully at home on January 9, 2024. Steve was an amazing husband to Rachel and father to Jack and Sydney. Steve was born on August 14, 1967, in Huntsville, Alabama, and spent most of his life in Northern Virginia. Steve and Rachel met in 1992, married in 1995, and in 1998, they made Vienna their forever home. Steve loved his family, sports, the law, and his community.

Steve had a strong work ethic and was diligent in everything he did. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree cum laude in political science in 1989 from Virginia Tech, and he graduated with a Juris Doctor degree with honors from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1998. He spent the majority of his professional career as a securities lawyer at the SEC and FINRA. Steve believed if you were going to do something, it was worth doing it well.

Steve was dedicated to his community and had a servant heart. He volunteered at SOME (So Others May Eat) and was passionate about combatting food insecurity for people in his community. As an active volunteer in the Vienna Little League, Steve led the Challenger League for 8 years providing children with special needs the opportunity to engage in sports. He loved making sure every child felt welcome and that they enjoyed participating. As a coach, mentor, and member of the board, Steve built relationships with these children and their families working tirelessly to help make their league experience fun and rewarding. His leadership inspired youth sports participants and served as an example of how they could get involved to help serve their community.

Steve was a loyal sports fan and his favorite teams were the New York Yankees, Virginia Tech Hokies, and the Washington Commanders (Redskins). In his adult life, Steve became an avid runnerand ran the Marine Corps Marathon in 2007. However, his favorite moments in sports were cheering for Jack and Sydney on whatever team they were playing on.

Steve loved to travel with his family and visited some remarkable places; Australia and Costa Rica being among his favorites. Steve cherished his time at Bethany Beach, and in later years, at his home in Holden Beach. He never missed an opportunity to be behind the grill and put his feet in the sand on the Fourth of July with his family.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Carroll and Elizabeth Jones. Steve is survived by his wife, Rachel Jones; his children, Jack Jones and Sydney Jones; sister Rebecca Jones (Don); brother Graham Jones (Diane); brother-in-law, Steve Blackwell (Pati); nieces and nephews, Bethany Blackwell (Jason), Ryan Blackwell, and Riley Blackwell.
