Susan M. Cox

December 16, 1947 ~ August 14, 2015
Susan M. Cox passed away quietly in her family home on Friday, August 14, 2015 surrounded by her family.
Susan's life started on December 16, 1947 in Southwest Virginia. The youngest of five children, she lived on the family farm until she was seven years old. In 1953, she moved to Arlington, VA with her mother and two sisters.
Susan had started a career as the Executive Secretary to the Director of GSA but decided to marry the love of her life, David Cox, and start a family. Together they had a daughter (Tracey) and three years later a son (Adam). Susan had a caring heart filled with love for her own children as well as other children including her nieces and nephews. She put everything she had into being the best mom she could be. She could simultaneously make an amazing grilled cheese sandwich while ironing a crease in the front of your jeans as she carried on a conversation with at least three different people in the house about ten different things and still get us to activities on time. She volunteered her time and energy for the PTA, cub scouts, art class, drama club, plant club, science club, school dances, field trips, standing in line overnight at Hechts for concert tickets, slumber parties, fixing bad hair cuts, mending broken hearts, finding "the perfect" outfit, spending countless hours at practices and games for football, baseball and soccer as well as manning their respective snack bars. She was accepting of the snakes, lizards, dogs, cats, hamsters, rabbits, fish and other critters we trekked into the house. For all of that and more, we love and thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Later in life Susan returned to the workforce as a real estate assistant for many years and then retired to enjoy supporting charities for homeless animals, working crossword puzzles, cooking fantastic spaghetti dinners, and lending a hand to friends and family. She was a whiz at trivia and facts and could answer almost every question on "Jeopardy" and "Who Wants to be a Millionaire".
She will always be loved and missed by everyone who knew her. She will forever be in our hearts.
She is survived by her children Tracey M. Henderson and Adam D. Cox, his wife Mindi and their dog Burt; Sisters, Mary M. Lipetz and Carolyn T. Ward; sisters-in-law, Kathryn Meade and Margaret Meade; nieces, Melissa Salyer, Jeannette Fletcher, Marjorie Duty, Melody Ward, Robyn Lipetz and Kimberly Bevan; nephews, John Meade, Jr., Wayne Meade, John Lipetz. She is preceded in death by her brothers, John S. Meade and Nyle V. Meade.

When we were living in the same neighborhood I so enjoyed our daily chats together. I always thought that Sue was one of the kindest and sweetest person I knew. She will be missed.
