Susan S. Martin

Susan Ellen Spencer Martin, 71, beloved wife of Bruce A. Martin, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 5, 2015. She was born in Upper Arlington, OH to the late Richard and Martha Spencer. After graduating from Winthrop College for Women in SC, Susie moved to Virginia where she married Bruce. She taught Art at Marsteller Middle School in Manassas, Va for 34 years. During this time she earned her M.Ed. at George Mason University. After retirement she was active with the Fairfax United Methodist Church where she taught ESL classes and volunteered with FISH (a multi-church organization to help persons with temporary critical needs), the Fairfax Winter Hypothermia Prevention Effort and the Fairfax Route 50 Corridor hot meals delivery progam.
She will be remembered for her selfless good dees and generosity, her artwork, her love of music and all of the little touches she added to the lives of those around her. She was a most gracious and insightful women whose kindness was matched by her enormous strength and courage.
Susie was predeceased by her parents as well as her brother, David Richard Spencer. She is survived by her beloved husband of 40 years, Bruce; her sister, Jane Spencer; her niece Kate (Josh) Leonard; and her nephew Paul (Anita) Woodard and their son Robert. She will also be missed by an extensive community of friends. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the Fairfax United Methodist Church, 10300 Stratford Avenue, Fairfax, Va 22030. I am so sorry to hear of the death of Susie Martin. I taught at Marsteller Middle School and enjoyed working with Susie there. I pray that her family will experience the comfort and peace that God provides to those who grieve the loss of their loved one.
