Sylvia Nakamura, 92, of Springfield, Va, passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2015. Sylvia was born on January 13, 1923 in Los Angeles, CA, the daughter of the late Scibei and Ao Tanaka. At age three, the family moved to Japan, returning to the United States a few years later.
Sylvia, a resident of the Greenspring retirement community, lived in Vienna, Va for 44 years where she raised her family. She is survived by her devoted husband, George Nakamura, three daughters, Joyce Barnekov of Oak Hill, Va, Patricia Martin of Hamilton, Ga, and Linda Nakamura of Charles Town, WV; her sister, Bette Uchida of Los Angeles, Ca; two granddaughters, Jenna Martin and Devon Barnekov; her grandson, Garrett Martin and two great-grandchildren, Jolie and Ethan Martin. Her brothers, Koyoshi (George), Tom and Johnny Tanaka, her sister, Ida Shintani, and her daughter, Diane Nakamura preceeded her in death.
A funeral service and interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery on Friday, November 13, 2015 at 2:00 PM.
