Tekla Torell Steuart

Tekla Torell Steuart, 85, of Reston, Va., died on April 18, 2015 at Reston Hospital after a brief illness. Tekla was born August 29, 1929 in Syracuse, New York, the daughter of Harold Edward Torell and Florence Decker Torell. Tekla graduated from Emma Willard School in Troy, New York and Brown University. Tekla married H. Newcomb Steuart, Jr., in 1954. He preceeded her in death in 2006.
The Steuarts lived in Syracuse and Albany, New York where she was an avid golfer, a member of The Junior League and the Embroiderers Guild of America. Following their move to Dunedin, Florida in 1978, she owned and operated a needlework and knitting shop. "Tekla Needlethings" for several years. In 2010, she moved to be closer to her daughter Bonnie and family in Vienna, Va.
Tekla Steuart is survived by three daughters, twins Bonnie (Don Taylor) and Holly (Steve Robertson) of Columbus, Georgia and Carrie (Mark Plumb) of Denver. Other survivors include three grandchildren, Drew, Tekla and Carly Taylor; sister-in-law, Jane Torell, several cousins and eight nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of the donors choice.
