Virginia V. Spirito

virginia spirito
Virginia “Vickie” (Godlove) Spirito passed away on August 10, 2021 in Vienna, Virginia. Born October 1, 1932 in Winchester, Virginia, Vickie grew up in the beautiful hills of apple country, becoming Miss Apple Blossom in 1952. She was employed as a civilian for the U.S. Army, Army Intelligence Division in Washington D.C. prior to meeting the love of her life, Leonard A. Spirito (Col. U.S. Army). Marrying the career Army officer gave Vickie and their growing family of three daughters the chance to live (Belgium and Germany) and travel throughout Europe and across the United States. Vickie and Len retired to Carlisle, Pennsylvania where family gathered for vacations and holidays, prior to Vickie returning to Virginia in 2018.

Vickie loved to collect antiques and was artistically gifted in home décor and loved to entertain. She was known for her elegance, style, kindness, compassion and fun, but most of all, for her love of family.

She is predeceased by her mother, Gladys Wingfield, her husband of 62 years, Leonard A. Spirito, and survived by daughters Laura S. Burgess (Eric), Pamela Spirito Porter (Greg), Sabrina Spirito (Ken Waidelich); grandchildren Ashley Burgess Gall, Brad Spirito Porter, Kyle Gregory Porter, and great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held Thursday, August 19, from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm at Money and King Funeral Home; 171 Maple Ave W; Vienna, VA. A service at Arlington National Cemetery will be held at a later date where Vickie will be interred with her husband.

Guestbook

  1. Our beautiful Mother, my best friend, was an Angel on Earth, elegant, always kind, fun, compassionate and always classy. Lucky is the next world that receives her. RIP Mommy, you are missed so very much.

  2. Virginia’s daughter, Sabrina, & I were in a leadership class together many years ago. Sabrina, if you happen to see this, I am so sorry for the loss of your mother. She is beautiful, just like you! While going thru old letters I came across the invitation to your wedding & when I searched to find a current mailing address to write to you, saw your mother’s obituary. Losing a parent is like no other loss in life – you & your family will be in my prayers. If I find a mailing address I will share experiences from watching my father pass away a few years ago . You were my favorite person from Leadership 2000. It was always fun & interesting to have dinner with you when we arrived in town for the classes. You taught me the “Five S’s” of wine tasting – see, swirl, sniff, sip, & savor. 🙂 You exemplified the qualities I admire in those with military training: Forthrightness, fairness, & discipline. You also were very confident, & your confidence in my abilities for our projects increased my confidence also. Thank you for that. Life is flying by. Your mother’s obituary mentioned she will be buried at ANC at a later date. I live in Arlington & would love to get together if by chance you have time when you are in Arlington. I will keep searching for current contact info for you & hope we can connect. All the best to you & your family. Best Wishes, Mary Pudner
