Wendi Paige Crouch (61)

It is with profound sadness we share that Wendi Paige Crouch passed away on August 19, 2021. She is preceded in death by her father, Joe A. Gardner and her brother, Allen Gardner.

Paige is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 16 years Steve, her mother Betty Gardner (91), her sister Teri Murphy (Frank), her brother Paul Gardner (Leigh), her stepson Chris Crouch and her many beloved nieces and nephews.

Paige was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado but lived most of her life in Northern Virginia. She graduated from Langley High School and was a long-time member of McLean Baptist Church. In her early 20s she owned and operated Video World, the first video rental store in McLean.

A car accident over 30 years ago left Paige paralyzed (quadriplegia). In spite of this profound, life changing injury she never lost her love of life and her sense of adventure. She and her husband enjoyed cruising the Caribbean, spending time on the Outer Banks and long weekends in the country traveling in their RV.

Paige was incredibly kind and philanthropic. She never met a stranger, and she generously opened her home, her closet, and her wallet to all who needed her. Her capacity to love and her kindness to others will be her legacy found in the numerous lives she touched.

A gifted artist, Paige only took up painting after she became paralyzed. With the assistance of her husband, devoted friends, and caregivers she painted by mouth. She was a proud member of the Mouth and Foot Painting Artists

(MFPA), an international Association owned and operated by disabled artists. Her beautiful paintings have been featured on greeting cards and calendars. She has demonstrated her mouth painting techniques and shown her remarkable works at numerous area venues.

Paige’s family asks that you consider making a donation to the MFPA (2070 Peachtree Industrial Court, #101, Atlanta, GA 30341) or The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis affiliated with the University of Miami in Miami Florida.

The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the doctors, nurses, staff and palliative care team at the Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington Virginia. Their

professionalism as well as their loving care and compassion for Paige and her family during the last few weeks of her life was so greatly appreciated.

Over the years since Paige’s accident she has had loving and devoted caregivers. Each one of them contributed to the quality of her life and we know if she were writing this, she would tell them how much she loved them and how grateful she was that they were a part of her life.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at McLean Baptist Church, 1367 Chain Bridge Road, McLean, Virginia on Wednesday, August 25 at 4 pm. An exhibition of Paige’s remarkable paintings and a reception at the church will follow. A private interment will precede the service.

We will love and miss her forever, but we are at peace knowing she is with our Lord and dancing in a place where pain and sorrow are no more. Online condolences and fond memories may be offered at www.moneyandking.com

  1. The last time I saw Paige was at the 30 year Langley High School reunion. She lit up the room with her exuberant warmth and laughter. I remember her video store and how much fun it was to go there. She was very much a pioneer to launch that business at that time – impressive business vision. Paige was always so sweet and friendly. Inspiring, really. I will remember her always. – Linda Conrad (Langley HS classmate)
