Wesley Allen King passed away on December 3, 2023, after a serious illness, at the age of 88. Wes is survived by his daughter, Marissa E. King (Bobby Huntley Jr.), Marissa’ mother, Maryann J. Doyle, and granddaughter, Jordan King-Huntley. He also leaves behind nieces Felicia Y. Williams, Felicity A. Williams, Esq., Bernadette King-Saunders, Courtney S. Sims, Shelia J. Marbury (Rev. Donald L. Marbury) nephews Benjamin H. Brown, Adam L. Brown, Robert A. King, Jr. (Belinda King), and his partner Pamela Johnson. Wes was preceded in death by his sisters, Ruth J. King, Constance K. Williams, Vivian J. Williams, Twyla J. Brown and his brothers Turner B. King and Robert A. King. Wes grew up in Greensburg PA and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a BS degree. Wes won the 1958 PENN relays in discus throwing and would have gone to the Olympics except for the Vietnam Conflict. Wes joined the Navy in 1959 and served on the USS Topeka, USS Tulare and his final ship was the USS King (DDG). He served four tours in Vietnam, plane guarded for Senator John McCain, and spent 14 years at sea. His service duties included Systems Engineering, Training, and Management assignments both at sea (WESTPAC) and in shore billets. Assignments included Systems Engineering and Deputy Program Manager for the Navy’s Joint Tactical Information Distribution System (JTIDS) program. He was instrumental in negotiating research and development contracts with several large Government contractors like Hughes Aircraft Co., ITT Avionics, Singer Kearfott (now BAE) and Rockwell Collins Corp. Wes had a distinguished Naval Career for over 26 years and retired as a Lieutenant Commander. Following retirement Wes joined P E Systems as a Senior Engineer and Program Manager for research and development of a unique crypto logic system for use in commercial applications in a partnership with Western Union/Contel. He was also Program Manager for a JTIDS system and network design application as well as oversight of other information transfer system applications and served as Director of Business Development for C4I programs. In May 1995 Wes purchased and became President, CEO and Chairman of the Board of P E Systems, Inc. As the leader of this Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business he grew the company by several acquisitions and internal growth from 35 employees to 315 today. Wes was an avid golfer and loved college football. He was a generous supporter of the Army Historical Museum, Veterans Inc.org, the Choral Arts Society of Washington and the National Museum of Women in the Arts.

Two viewings will be held at Money and King Funeral Home December 11, 2023, from 2:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM with a memorial service on December 12, 2023, at 11:30AM. There will be a second memorial service on December 14, 2023, 12:00PM in the Chapel at Homewood Cemetery, 1599 S. Dallas Ave., Pittsburgh, PA. Wes will be interred at Homewood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a contribution may be made to VeteransInc.org.
