William A. Coll

William Anthony Coll, Capt., USN (Ret)., died on Saturday March 2, 2013 in Fairfax, Va. Born January 31, 1930 in Pittsburgh, PA., he was the youngest of three sons born to John and Mary Coll. Bill grew up in Pittsburgh, attended Central Catholic High School, earned a Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy from the Maryknoll Seminary, and later Master's Degrees from Shippensburg State College and Marymount University. He joined the US Navy and was an officer in the submarine community in the Atlantic and Pacific fleets, serving from 1955-1986, when he retired from the Pentagon as a Captain. Bill, who was a 36 year resident of Vienna, Va is survived by his former wife, Margaret S. Coll, his seven beloved children, Maureen Towne (Douglas), Christine Storey, Sean (Sarah), Meghan Deese (John), Patrick (Robin), Matthew (Rebecca), Rachel Coll. twelve grandchildren and brother, Rev. John J. Coll, S.J. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Rev. Jerome B. Coll, S.J. Bill was a devoted member of St. Mark Catholic Church, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and sang in the choir.
