Born July 16, 1949 in Alexandria, Va, Butch was the son of Yelbert and Elmira (Taylor) Cooper. Butch proudly served his country in the US Army during Vietnam. Along with his wife, he was co-owner of the Floor Store of Va., retiring after 40 + years in the industry. On April 19, 1984, he was united in marriage to Barbara F. Cooper who survives. In addition to his wife, Butch is survived by five daughters and one son, Lisa Lang of Potomac, Md (Andrew), Kim Gnadt of Santa Rosa, Ca, Brooke Johnson of Centreville, Va (Mike), Robert Lewis of Aldie, Va (Joey), Ashley Gordon of Ashburn, Va (Chad), and Gretchen Taylor of Centreville, Va (Jeff), and siblings Dolores Rogers, Marilyn Lester, Karen Ryder, Sharon Graham, and Susan Wood. Butch enjoyed classic cars, running the black jack table, golfing, watching football and wheel-of-fortune (solving all of the puzzles!), and spending time with family, friends and his beloved Sophie. Above all else, Butch will be remembered for his great sense of humor, having a joke to share and making people laugh in a split second.

Great Uncle who always had you looking over your shoulder as you never knew what he was going to do next
Memories of Butch- Seeing Butch fall in Love with Grayson, when Grayson was 3 weeks old. Magical time. You knew Butch liked you if he teased you. I am sure Butch knew how much Jerry looked up to him. Keeping Barbara, and the family in my prayers! God Bless
Butch will always remain very much alive in the memories of those who loved, respected, and treasured him. The world has lost someone very special. My Brother.
It was an honor to have Butch as a father-in-law. Butch will live in our memories everyday, as he is a man that cant be and will never be forgotten. Thank you for all the great memories over the years.
Gonna miss you buddy
Gonna miss you buddy
We enjoyed our time with you, especially on your boat. You always seemed at peace while riding along the water. May you be at peace now, forever.
To Lisa and Kim, I have very fond memories of your dad. He had a wonderful sense of humor and he was a kind and thoughtful man. He and your Grandfather Robey were great friends and loved playing cards together. I send you and your family my deepest sympathy. Love Aunt Peggy
Dad-You left too soon but you will be with me forever. There will not be a day that will go by that I will not be thinking of you. I could not have asked for a better father. You always looked out for your family. When I look at my children, I am reminded of you daily. Rest in peace and keep an eye on us from the sky!! XOXO

You will be missed with that great sense of humor and the way you enjoyed life. Your daughter Lisa and especially your grandson Jake carry on so many of your qualities. Lexi has been sad as she loved you so much as her grandfather. The way you would always help people who were in need was such a great quality. You never asked for anything back in return with your random acts of kindness. Anyone who took the time to get to know you were luckier for it. I’ve known you now for almost 21 years & I think 21 was your favorite number as you hit it so many times at the Blackjack table. I enjoyed going to Atlantic City with you and golfing even though we hadn’t done that in a long time. We always enjoyed watching football games together and more recently watching car shows and American Restoration and Pawn Stars. Most of all I am so grateful all the time recently that you spent with Jake as he told me last night you went to most of his baseball games this year. Two weeks ago he watched Field Of Dreams and was really touched by the movie. The times you used to sneak over unannounced in your 60’s Corvette and put Jake behind the wheel and then take him for a drive really turned him into a car lover. I remember when you laughed when he asked you about getting a Ferrari as your next car. Last year when you drove and got lost and made it to see Lexi’s dance competition was so special to her. I can’t even get mad at you for all the practical jokes you played on me from the prank phone calls to gag gifts to the exploding golf ball you once tee’d up for me to the April Fools jokes to even the gag the day I married your daughter. You raised Lisa mostly by yourself as a single father until she was 10. You were in your 20’s and early 30’s and you did the best you could do under the circumstances and she will always appreciate that. I’ve run out of room to type more thoughts. Some times the little things matter most. You will be missed but never forgotten
My sincere condolences to Barbara and her entire family on the loss of Butch. He always had a kind word and smile whenever I saw him, a very nice neighbor indeed. I know the comfort of belonging to a close family will help to ease the sadness for each of you. Blessings to all.
I’m sure going to miss you. Maybe I’ll see you on the other side some day and you’ll be ready with a joke or a gag.
I always looked forward to Butch and family coming to Las Vegas for car shows and basketball games. My favorite town is where I really got to know Butch. He was a fabulous Blackjack player, a man of fun and tremendous generosity. I loved being around him and watching him play his favorite game. He would pause long enough to have a wonderful dinner with his friends and family. My deepest condolences to Barbara and the whole family. I was lucky enough to spend a bit of time with him earlier this year and will now treasure that memory.
I have known Butch pretty much my entire adult life. He always made me laugh. He will be missed.
Thoughts and prayers to your entire family.
Bob and Joey Lewis and all of your family and friends I am so sorry for your sudden loss of Butch Cooper. Thinking of you always. I love you both Joey and Bob. Tracey Rosenfeld, Friend of Bob and Joey Lewis
