Of McLean, VA on Sunday, April 10, 2011. Beloved husband of Yelena Stamenich; loving father of Milica Stamenich, Draza Stamenich, and of the late Ljubomir Stamenich; son of the late Milosav and Milica Stamenich.
Mr. Zlatan Stamenich was an enemy of oppression and fighter against tyranny, he took up arms against the Nazi when they invaded his native Serbia. Sacrificing status and wealth, he joined other Serbian patriots in desperate in guerilla war. Three times arrested, he escaped death and returned to the battle. In the early postwar era, he joined forces with the Peasant International to oppose the Communist tyranny which had replaced Nazism in Eastern Europe. In 1961 his dream of freedom brought him to America where, beginning humbly, he availed himself of the opportunities this country provides to the resourceful and the self-reliant, rising rapidly to a position of prominence in the Washington community where he proudly became a Restauranteur, loving husband and adoring father.
