A few decades ago Carlos burst into our lives…. and stayed! As he had regular business meetings in La Jolla we invited him to be with us at those times. He became an important member of our California family. He was an inspiration in his open kindness, and love of people. He was a “connector” and helped his friends and wanted them to know and like each other. He knew someone who made chocolate and he sent us samples. If a friend vacationed in the Caribbean he would make sure they picked up some special coffee for me. If a friend wrote a book he would send a copy to other friends. His network was large and crossed boundaries. What a friend he was!
As time went on he was there for our family events … both happy and sad. Carlos was a great photographer and recorded them all.
As I think of him now I realize how extraordinary he was. I am sure other of his friends can recount his achievements in the world. They were many.
But for the Hendler family he was a great soul… an inspiration in his humanity. I feel the loss and my tears are a measure of the place he had in our lives. I can only be thankful that I have had the privilege of being his friend.
